Following 1970, Mr. Lewis became an educator at Wilbur Wright and Dunbar High School as well as the team leader for the Dayton Science Center. As a teacher he was known for taking inner city youths to Indiana and Kentucky to spend the weekend underground exploring caves.  He also is very proud of being responsible for applying for and receiving a federal grant of several thousand dollars to assist Dunbar High School in developing a top flight science program. While service as a school teacher, he also attended the University of Dayton where he received his Masters Degree in Public Administration in 1974.

Mr. Lewis worked as an Administrative Specialist for the Ohio Youth Commission.  In that capacity, he applied for and received numerous federal grants which funded juvenile police officers, funded and created a three county juvenile detention center, funded adult education programs and funded other programs designed to prevent juvenile delinquency.  He also organized and taught classes to instruct parents on how to prevent and discipline delinquent teens.

Terry Lewis returned to the University of Dayton where he obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1979.  While attending Law School, he was a member of the teams that represented the University of Dayton Law School in the National Moot Court Competition, the National Mock Trial Competition, the National Labor Law Competition and served as the coach for the National Corporate Law Team, all of which resulted in multiple trophies and awards for the University. Shortly after his graduation from the University of Dayton and after passing the state bar examination, Mr. Lewis was offered the position as the sole prosecuting attorney for the largest single judge court in the State of Ohio, the Vandalia Municipal Court.  At that time, the Vandalia Municipal Court averaged nearly 1600 DUI charges per year.

Terry Lewis served as a Vandalia Prosecuting Attorney for eight years from 1980 to 1988.  Mr. Lewis also served as an acting judge of the Vandalia Municipal Court from 1988 to 1995. When serving as Prosecutor, Mr. Lewis insisted that he be called to the scenes of every fatal accident in the Vandalia Court’s jurisdiction, no matter what the time, to ensure that all evidence was collected properly. He had a great working relationship with the Troopers of the local Ohio State Highway Patrol Post and was invited on several occasions by the Ohio State Highway Patrol to speak at their academy in Columbus, Ohio to teach Troopers how to properly present their cases.

During his 8 year tenure as prosecuting attorney for Vandalia Municipal Court Lewis never lost a jury trial to another attorney.

Following 1995, Mr. Lewis has continued to practice law with his private practice, Terry Lewis Law Office, in his home office in downtown Dayton, Ohio. Mr. Lewis has been a trial attorney for over thirty-three years in the Dayton area and he has tried hundreds of jury and court trials, both as a prosecutor and as a private attorney. In addition to trying hundreds of trials, Mr. Lewis was nominated and admitted to the National Order of the Barristers and is the recipient of two Lewis F. Powell Awards for Excellence in Advocacy. Terry Lewis continued to express the importance of educating young high school teens by coaching the Mock trial  team for Northmont High School. In 2009 the team reached the State finals. In 2013 Mr. Lewis served as the Assistant County Prosecutor with the Miami County Prosecutors Office.

Mr. Lewis has argued or briefed over one hundred cases before the Ohio’s Second and Twelfth District Court of Appeals, The Ohio Supreme Court, and the Federal Sixth District Court of Appeals.
